From July 10th, Childcare Subsidy (CCS) changes for all families and this may affect the amount of financial support you receive. The Government is making childcare more affordable for families so you can give your children the high quality care and education they need in their early years.
These exciting changes can be over whelming and so we are here to help break down the changes to the Childcare Subsidy and support families who are looking for childcare in Macquarie fields and surrounding suburbs.
What are the Changes to Childcare Subsidy in 2023?
Starting in July 2023, the following changes will take affect you CCS entitlements:
- Families earning up to $80,000 will get an increased maximum CCS amount, from 85% to 90%.
- If your combine family income is under 530,000, you are eligible for more childcare subsidy.
- Your Childcare subsidy will go down 1% for every $5000 that you earn with annual income of over $80,000.
- If you are have more than one child aged 5 and under, you will be eligible for more childcare subsidy for them.
- Additional Childcare subsidy will apply to families who apply for transition to work, low income increases to 80,000.
- First nations children will be now eligible for 36 hours of subsidised care from July 10th.

How to apply for CCS?
In most cases, you don’t need to do anything to get the increased rate. If you get CCS now, we’ll apply the changes to your CCS automatically from 10 July 2023.
Make sure you have updated your activity statement and Income tax return details.
If you are new family and have not received Childcare subsidy, the application process is simple. Follow the steps below to apply for CCS:
- Login to your Centerlink Account via the My Gov App.
- Click on the link to “Make a claim”
- In the families section click on “Get Started”
- Enter your details as required
The CCS application process can take up to 4 to 6 weeks. Start the process as soon as you have an idea on when you would like your child to start day care. This way Childcare subsidy is ready to go on their first day of attendance. Otherwise you may have to pay full fees.
